“Timothée and Kylie were replaced by seat fillers for an hour,” one source revealed. “It seems like he had enough of being the butt of the jokes. They only came back just before the Best Actress and Best Actor categories were announced.”
What should have been a celebratory night quickly turned into something closer to a slow-burn roast. But the jokes didn’t stop there. The commentary took on a more pointed tone as the night went on, with even award winners subtly weighing in. Alexandre Singh, while accepting the Best Live Action Short Film award for Two People Exchanging Saliva, delivered a speech that felt anything but random.
“We believe art can change people’s souls,” he said. “Maybe it takes ten years, but we can change society through art, through creativity, through theatre and ballet — and cinema.”
If that wasn’t a subtle dig, it definitely felt like one. Then came one of the most talked-about moments of the night: a performance from Sinners that featured ballerina Misty Copeland — someone who had previously criticized Chalamet’s comments. Her presence alone added another layer to the situation, especially given the context of everything that had been said leading up to the event.
